Depression
Symptoms and Treatment
Depression is a common and serious mood disorder. People who suffer from depression experience persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness. They can also seem listless and lose interest in activities they once enjoyed. The following are some of the symptoms of depression:
-
Depressed mood.
-
Markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities.
-
Significant weight loss when not dieting or weight gain, or decrease or increase in appetite.
-
A slowing down of thought and a reduction of physical movement (observable by others, not merely subjective feelings of restlessness or being slowed down).
-
Fatigue or loss of energy.
-
Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt.
-
Diminished ability to think or concentrate, or indecisiveness.
-
Recurrent thoughts of death, recurrent suicidal ideation without a specific plan, or a suicide attempt or a specific plan for committing suicide.
At Revive, we have a team of therapists who are well trained, empathic and compassionate in helping to diagnose and treat depression. We primarily use Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) along with Mindfulness techniques to help identify unhelpful ways of thinking and replace them with healthier ways of talking to yourself, coping with difficult situations and in staying in the present and not dwelling in past mistakes.
